My research interests concern the future of information and communication technologies, especially as they relate to institutions of higher education, libraries, work, and ethics. Currently, I am focused on the reflective and responsible use of artificial intelligence and its integration into libraries and institutions of higher education.
My most recent book, Hope in the Library: How Libraries Can Help Shape Our Future with Artificial Intelligence (Bloomsbury, 2026), argues for the importance of libraries in an age of artificial agency.
My second book, Artificial Intelligence and the Apocalyptic Imagination: Artificial Agency and Human Hope (Cascade, 2023), was based on an endowed lecture I delivered in 2022. The introduction is available here.
